When I first listened to this song I thought of a classic Twilight Zone episode that I've always wanted to use as a starting point for a music video. I also thought of the 1984 Orwellian ad for Apple. I thought of Rhythm Nation, Metropolis, slaves/prisoners of a dystopia marching in long lines. I am interested to hear more about what this song means to you but I see a lot of potential so many ideas can plug into it.
Anxiety is a monster and he lives somewhere in Lia's house. She tries to fall asleep but red yarn pulls her possessions out of her bedroom. Red yarn attaches itself to Lia and pulls her out of her bedroom and down the hall. She discovers a room where all her belongings are hanging from the ceiling from a giant network of red spiderwebs. Anxiety is doing tests on Lia's lipstick, her keys, her childhood toys. When Anxiety starts analyzing Lia's phone she is petrified. Cork boards and computer screens show some the confusing and paranoid project Anxiety is doing about Lia. She tries to escape but more red yarn surrounds her until she is is tied to a chair. Overwhelmed, she dives into the yarn as if it is a pool. She hides under the yarn, watching Anxiety continue to do strange tests and experiments on her belongings, on her life. In the end he gives her back her phone and she stares at it as if none of it ever happened, happy to have her pacifier back in her hands. Would need to adapt this idea some. Maybe Anxiety is feeding her strange foods or truths. Maybe it's a bit more like clockwork orange where she's tied up and made to watch images on screens trying to indoctrinate her to ideas that are not true, something she shouldn't can't believe in?
"The Feed" is about a social media monster who I call Facetime. He eats likes (hearts) and other social media engagement to survive. He grows hearts and likes in a garden, picks them, cooks them, has a fridge full of them. He's also very lonely and depressed, because what he eats isn't actually sustaining or satisfying. He's like a hungry ghost or any classic monster: edward scissorhands, the hunchback, king kong. I could see a story where Lia finds him in his solitude, in his lair, and she takes him out into the world to show him he doesn't have to stay in his cave or stare at his screen, that he can have real human connection and engagement that is far more fulfilling than his usual diet. I really don't have the story for this one it's more a character we could develop and find a story for. We could play on the theme of "Feed Me" and the social media "feed" and how we all are supposed to feed this monster but what is the fucking point? It's sucking our souls out of all of us and the monster isn't even happy about it.
