The Karama Education Center
Founded in 2017 in the rural coffee-growing community of Nyamigoye Parish in Western Uganda, the Karama Education Center was established through partnerships with Now Africa Initiative and The Chain Collaborative. Our work with the school began in 2018 with the installation of a Living Waters for the World water filtration system and solar panels, bringing clean water and electricity to classrooms in a region where many families live without power, cook over campfires, and reside in small homes with dirt floors.

In 2024, we transformed the school’s deteriorating library into a digital learning center with internet access, and in 2025 we helped fund the lease of 10 acres of farmland to support the school’s feeding program, which provides many students with their only two meals each day. Today, we are launching a new initiative to expand music and drama education by providing both traditional and contemporary instruments, with a fundraising goal of $25,000.
Nyamigoye Parish is a young and rapidly growing community of 7,168 residents, with nearly two-thirds of the population under age 30. Since opening, Karama Education Center has helped 155 students qualify for secondary school, despite the absence of a local secondary school, and we believe expanded arts education can provide students with creative expression, continued learning opportunities, and hope for the future.

Patti and Dave Patterson lead the mission team at Conshohocken United Methodist Church and are also active members of the Conshohocken Plymouth Whitemarsh Rotary (CPW), where Patti serves as the foundation chair. Since 2017, Patti and Dave have collaborated with Living Waters for the World (LWW) to implement water filtration systems in various locations. So far, these efforts have successfully reached communities in Cuba, Kenya, and Uganda.
Patti and Dave's most recent project was at the Karama Education Center in Uganda, where they not only installed a water filtration system but also expanded their initiatives to include solar power for both the water system and classroom lighting. Furthermore, they established a digital learning center to connect the local community and students with global resources and to support a scholarship and school feeding program.
They are currently embarking on a new initiative to fund a music, dance, and drama (MDD) program that will enhance educational and cultural opportunities. Your support for this project would be greatly valued.
